Sensual, intuitive and deeply evocative, Venetia Berry's work explores the relationship between the body, memory and emotion. Moving effortlessly between painting and ceramic sculpture, she creates dreamlike compositions that exist somewhere between figuration and abstraction, inviting viewers into landscapes that feel both intimately familiar and just beyond reach.
London-based artist Venetia Berry (b.1993) explores female identity and desire through a practice that celebrates the body in both paint and clay. Her paintings are rooted in intuition, allowing colour, gesture and material to guide each work as it unfolds. Rather than following a predetermined composition, Venetia embraces spontaneity, creating layered surfaces where abstracted figures emerge and dissolve, like fragments of a remembered dream.
Working with tactile materials including velvet, coarse linen and ceramic, her practice is deeply connected to touch and sensation. Every brushstroke, imprint and gesture records a fleeting moment in time, balancing expressive mark-making with subtle references to the human form. The result is work that feels both physical and ethereal, encouraging viewers to connect not only with what they see, but with what they feel.
Inspired by the emotional power of colour, texture and materiality, Venetia creates paintings and sculptures that blur the boundaries between body and landscape, abstraction and representation. Her work invites quiet contemplation, exploring nostalgia, intimacy and the subconscious through richly layered compositions.
Alongside her studio practice, Venetia has collaborated with leading brands including Soho House, Matches Fashion, Liberty London, The Ned and Alex Eagle Studio, with her work featured in publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, House & Garden and The Times. She studied at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh and the Royal Drawing School in London, was Artist in Residence at Villa Lena in Italy, and is currently completing an MA in Fine Art at City & Guilds of London Art School. She is also the co-founder of Sol Creative Retreats.
